Crumbtally ("the App", "we", "us") is a recipe cost and pricing calculator published by Sloth Lab. This policy explains what information the App handles, where it goes, and the choices you have.
In short: there is no account and no Crumbtally server. Your recipes, ingredients, and prices stay on your device. The only things that leave your device are anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, and you can turn both off in Settings.
1. Your recipe data stays on your device
Everything you enter — ingredients, purchase prices, recipes, labor and packaging costs, fees, and selling prices — is stored only on your device, in a local database inside the App. We never receive it, and it is never sent to any third-party service.
- No account, no sign-in. The App does not ask for your name, email address, or phone number.
- No ads and no payments. The App contains no advertising SDKs and no in-app purchases.
- Backup files are yours. When you choose to export a backup, the App creates a file and hands it to the place you pick (for example, your Files app, email, or a cloud drive of your choice). We do not receive or store backup files. A backup file contains your recipe data in readable form, so keep it somewhere you trust.
- Feedback emails are sent by you. "Send feedback" (in Settings, or "Ask us to add it" when an ingredient is missing from the built-in table) opens your own email app with a draft addressed to us. The draft already contains a short block with the App version, your phone's operating system and version, and the App's language and currency (and, for a missing ingredient, the name you typed), so we can reproduce problems. Nothing is sent unless you press Send in your email app, and you can edit or delete any of it first. If you do send it, we receive your email address and what you wrote, and use them only to reply and improve the App.
- Device backups. If you have turned on your phone's own backup (Google or iCloud backup), your operating system may include the App's database in that backup. That is handled by Google or Apple under your account with them, not by us.
2. Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports
To learn which features help and to fix bugs, the App can send:
| What | Examples | Provider |
|---|---|---|
| App interactions (usage statistics) | "a recipe was costed", "a backup was exported", number of items in a recipe, chosen currency or cup standard | PostHog |
| Crash logs and diagnostics | stack traces, App version, device model, operating system version, free memory at the time of a crash | Google Firebase Crashlytics |
| Device or other IDs | a random installation identifier created by the App or the provider (not your advertising ID, not your phone number) | Google Firebase Crashlytics; PostHog |
What is never sent: ingredient names, recipe names, prices, costs, or any other number you typed. Events record that something happened, never your content.
How this data is handled:
- Not linked to you. There is no account, so these records are tied only to a random installation identifier, not to your name, email, or identity.
- No tracking and no advertising. We do not use your data for advertising, do not sell it, and do not combine it with data from other apps or websites. Because there is no tracking, the App does not show Apple's "Allow tracking?" prompt.
- IP addresses. Like any internet connection, sending data reveals your IP address to the provider. Google (for crash reports) does not provide it to us. PostHog is configured with IP storage and location lookup turned off and uses its EU-hosted region. No precise location is collected.
- No profiles, no screen recording. PostHog runs in anonymous mode (no person profiles), with automatic click capture and session recording turned off.
- Encrypted in transit. All data is sent over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections.
- Retention. Data is kept only as long as needed for these purposes, under each provider's retention settings (for example, Crashlytics keeps crash reports for 90 days).
3. Your choice: consent and opt-out
- EU/EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland (based on your device's region setting): usage statistics and crash reports are off by default. At the end of onboarding, the App asks once whether you agree to send anonymous usage statistics. Nothing is sent unless you say yes.
- Everywhere else: they are on by default, the onboarding screen tells you so, and you can turn them off at any time.
- Turning it off: Settings → Usage statistics. This single switch turns off both usage statistics and crash reports. The App works exactly the same either way.
4. Legal basis (EU/UK users)
We send usage statistics and crash reports from the EU/EEA, UK, and Switzerland only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the Settings switch. For users elsewhere, we rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the App working and improving it, and you can object at any time with the same switch.
5. Service providers
These companies process data on our behalf as service providers. They are not allowed to use it for their own advertising.
| Provider | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) | Crash reports | https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| PostHog (PostHog Inc., hosted in the United States) | Anonymous usage statistics | https://posthog.com/privacy |
| Google Analytics (Google LLC) | Visit statistics for the website crumbtally.slothlab.app only — not used in the App | https://policies.google.com/privacy |
The website. The Crumbtally website (crumbtally.slothlab.app) uses Google Analytics to count visits: which pages were viewed, the referring site, and approximate country and device type. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off, and it is not linked to anything in the App. You can block it with a browser setting or extension, or with Google's opt-out add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).
Some of these providers may process data outside your country (for example, in the United States). Where required, such transfers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. Deleting your data
- Recipe data: delete individual items in the App, use your device's "Clear data/storage" option, or uninstall the App. Because the data exists only on your device, deleting it there deletes it completely. Exported backup files are deleted wherever you saved them.
- Usage statistics and crash reports: turn off Settings → Usage statistics to stop future collection. Uninstalling the App (or clearing its data) resets the random installation identifier, so new data cannot be connected to old data. You can also ask us to delete data we hold — see the Data Deletion page: https://crumbtally.slothlab.app/data-deletion.html
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR, Brazil's LGPD, or California's CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, to withdraw consent, and to object to processing. Because we hold no account or contact details for you, the easiest way to exercise these rights is with the in-app switch and the steps above. You can also email us, and you may complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Children
The App is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
9. Changes to this policy
If the App changes how it handles data (for example, if optional cloud sync or paid features are added in the future), we will update this policy first. The "Last updated" date above shows when it last changed.
